Senior Manager, GFS (Global Financial Services) Controlling Ireland

Are you ready to delve into intellectually stimulating work? We are seeking a Senior Manager to lead EMEA Record-to-Report (R2R) activities within our Global Finance Services (GFS) Controlling Ireland team, based in Dublin. This role is accountable for end-to-end financial accounting, close, and reporting for EMEA legal entities within Alexion. This role offers the opportunity to lead a team that supports the EMEA monthly and quarterly close for 20 entities and the completion of local statutory audits. You will be a key player in owning record to report month end and quarter end for specified EMEA entities, supporting local statutory audits while providing financial guidance analysis and support to the business.
You will be responsible for:
· Financial close and reporting: Own the EMEA month, quarter, and year-end close timetable; ensure accurate ledger close, journals, accruals, deferrals, and reconciliations; deliver high-quality management reporting packs and support Group reporting submissions in line with IFRS and AZ policies.
· Technical accounting and policy: Interpret and apply IFRS and AstraZeneca/Alexion accounting policies to EMEA transactions
· Balance sheet governance: Own balance sheet integrity; oversee and challenge account reconciliations, ageing, and substantiation; drive action plans and ensure SOX and internal control compliance.
· Controllership and compliance: Coordinate external audit deliverables for the R2R team and work in close partnership with the statutory accounting team.
· Process leadership: Lead day to day R2R delivery in partnership with internal finance teams and outside service providers; set SLAs/KPIs, monitor performance, and resolve issues; document and enhance standard operating procedures and process maps; champion standardization and automation.
· Projects and transformation: Lead or support global finance initiatives; drive continuous improvement, automation opportunities, and change management across EMEA R2R.
· Stakeholder engagement: Build strong relationships with Group Controllers, GFS leadership, outside service providers, local country finance leaders, FP&A. Provide clear, proactive communication and business partnering.
· People leadership: Manage a team of R2R professionals; set objectives, coach, develop capabilities, and foster a high performance, inclusive culture focused on service excellence and compliance.
You will need to have:
· Professional Accountancy Qualification e.g. ACCA, ACA, CPA, CIMA
· 5+ years’ experience in a financial accounting/controllership environment leading month end close at scale.
· Ability to deal with ambiguity, embrace change and be comfortable working in a high growth, fast paced and multi-task environment
· High level of proficiency Microsoft Office
· Ability to use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solving; analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours
We would prefer for you to have:
· Experience using SAP, Blackline and Power BI a plus
· Multinational pharmaceutical experience a plus
· Demonstrated success in a deadline driven, multi-task environment
· Can-do attitude and attention to detail
· Excellent communication, presentation (storytelling) and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently and part of a team
